On Wednesday afternoon, May 10, De Duindoorn is organizing a free cooking workshop for neighbourhood residents.

The goal is to learn together how to make easy and cheap recipes.

After the workshop you will receive the recipe book ‘Cooking together in Groningen’, which is offered by Food Trails, a program of the municipality of Groningen.

The workshop lasts from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

De Duindoorn is present at the location of Wijkbedrijf Selwerd (Bottelroosstraat 3).

First Dates great success!

A first-date evening was organized by Wijkbedrijf Selwerd and WIJS Groningen on Thursday evening 6 April. Around a quarter to 6 the first people who had signed up arrived.

In the entrance hall of Wijkrestaurant De Duindoorn they are kindly welcomed by a student of WIJS. The residents of Selwerd and the surrounding area get their first drink at the bar and are brought to the table around 6 o’clock. From that moment the evening starts and they a 3-course menu is served.

The evening goes well and after each course the residents are allowed to change tables in order to get in touch with as many people as possible. There were cards on the table available with questions that they could ask each other, but several residents indicated that they did not even need this.

The residents enjoyed each other’s company so much that they sat down together at the end of the evening to round off. It has become an evening full of fun, new encounters and connections!

Employee of the month: Fatima!

Fatima has been living in the Selwerd district for 19 years and has 4 children, 3 girls and a boy. She has developed a passion for cooking while doing this for her family. Her hobbies besides cooking are dancing and playing basketball.

Fatima is doing an internship at Wijkrestaurant De Duindoorn for the period of a year. She is doing a two-year MBO course “Service Employee Broad” BBL part-time at Noorderpoort. She enjoys helping people, whether this is in the hospitality industry or home care.

She performs many different tasks. For example, Fatima is working behind the cash register, serves visitors, cleans the restaurant and helps with cooking and baking in the kitchen. She especially likes cooking and can now prepare various dishes with rice, spaghetti and mashed potatoes. At De Duindoorn, she learned a lot about hygiene and cutting techniques. Hopefully a great few internship months will follow!
